No Longer An After Thought

Why is it that laundry rooms are an after thought or no thought at all? I know that you’ve seen them or maybe even have one. You know the ones that are not only boring but, down right ugly. Maybe they have a beige color on the walls with one of those open wired shelves that are packed to the hilt with God knows what. Doing the laundry is something we all have to do. It’s a boring mundane chore. So, why not make the most of it and do it in a beautiful and functioning space?

Let’s face it, most laundry rooms are typically the smallest room in the house which makes them one of the least expensive rooms to decorate. Meet my client’s the Jones’s. The Jones’s laundry room is located off of their kitchen. A room that we had just finished remodeling. It’s a small room that you pass thru to access the garage and it’s very visible from the kitchen. Needless to say, their laundry room stood out like the proverbial sore thumb. Beige beat up looking walls, a large fluorescent light fixture, and one of those open wire shelves that spanned the wall above the washer and dryer. This room really needed something to Jazz up the space. So, we decided to wallpaper the room in a lovely blue and white paper. Wallpaper is a great way to add pattern in small spaces. Next, we replaced the wire shelf with white cabinetry. So that we could hide all of the detergent, fabric softener, and assorted other things. Crowne moulding was added and we painted the ceiling in a pretty shade of orange (orange is the complementary color to blue). My client loves to quilt and we decided to have her make a quilt to disguise the electric panel. An orange rug was with a white boarder was placed in the room to complete our project. Today, when your standing in the kitchen, you see a beautiful laundry room which is no longer an after thought.
